About Petter Wine Gallery:
Our gallery is committed to promoting and celebrating the artistry of wine making. All Petter Wine Gallery vintners are true artists. We seek out and offer only low yield, boutique, garagiste and artisan vintners from around the globe. We focus on finding wines that are not a production, but are made with the touch of the human hand and heart. You will notice the difference!
OUR PASSION FOR WINE
We are here to celebrate and experience the results of years of passion and patience from the vintners who pour their heart and soul into creating a wonderful drink. Each sip reveals the story of the vineyard’s unique terroir. Breathing in the tantalizing aromas, we recognize the skill of the vintner.
THE GALLERY EXPERIENCE
We are fortunate to live in a state surrounded by water; Pure Michigan water that warms the air and protects the vines. Did you know there are now 126 vintners sculpting grapes and fruit into wine right here in Michigan? There are! Petter Wine Gallery is honored to be the one who can introduce you collectively to many of these fine Pure Michigan artists. We invite you to compare the fruits of their labor side by side with global appellations. Sip a fine dry Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc in a flight with the same varietal from a similar terroir in Alsace, France. You might even be tempted to see what Michigan is doing with the temperamental yet cold loving Pinot Noir. It’s all here. Compare our grapes with those from California to New York, Europe, and South America. Give it a chance and you will see that Michigan shines!
The History Behind Our Logo:
If you’ve had the pleasure of taking in the timeless beauty of a Carl Hoerman painting, you know that he has captured the light and essence of the Saugatuck/Douglas shores like no other. His incredible spirit still lingers in the building that many still refer to as the Carl Hoerman building or River Guild Gallery Center on Blue Star Highway in Douglas, Michigan.
In 1993, Joyce Petter of Joyce Petter Gallery, purchased the Carl Hoerman building, which had undergone many lives since its glorious stay with Carl, and she intended to breathe the appreciation of art back into that beautiful place. While renovating to create gallery spaces, she made an amazing discovery. Hidden in one of the walls was a secret treasure, a carved wooden door; the very door that had once graced the entrance to the River Guild Gallery. In the center of the door, as if still guarding this place of creativity, was a figure of a craftsman, chisel and hammer in hand. He was sculpting his wares.
The Sculptor became the symbol of the Petter Gallery, and now lives on announcing that this place is a place for artists! So it seems only fitting that, in 2013, The Sculptor should also signify the fine art of vintners, as we expand the opportunities to enjoy this art in the new Petter Wine Gallery. After all, are not vintners Craftsmen and Craftswomen who sculpt the fruit of the earth into the nectar we call wine? We are here to celebrate and experience the results of years of passion and patience from the vintners who pour their heart and soul into creating a wonderful drink.
