The Team at J. Petter Galleries
Some of us are here all year, some of us are more summer folks…
Here is a tiny, little glimpse into the personalities of the amazing group of people striving to create some very artful spaces! Paintings of our lovely people are all thanks to Juli’s talented mother, Mary Ann Petter.
Juli (The Owner) calls herself the “Chief Check Writer”, but actually gets to dabble with pretty much everything here at the gallery. That includes taking out the trash! Her goal is to offer a warm and friendly experience for both the customers, the artists and the gallery team. Creating a beautiful space to showcase the art and finding unique wines is her passion. When not at the gallery you will find Juli in the great outdoors. She loves long walks in the Lake Michigan shore dunes with her hubby, her almost grown up kids, and the family dog, Annie. Juli and her husband love to catch sunsets on the water. The two of them spend much of their free time boating or racing sail boats.
Karen is the face behind our website, “e-blasts” and most things marketing. Her background in Graphic Design has helped us reach out beyond our four walls to find new customers. She has an uncanny ability to make things artful, and that comes through not only in our print materials, but also the appetizer and cheese boards made In House. Karen has 25 years in the wine biz under her belt, plus she is married to a sommelier. She has become a wine (and food pairing) resource to many of our customers. When not creating the next “e-blast”, you will find Karen cheering for her favorite hockey team, tending her herb garden, traveling near and far, or watching scary movies with her hubby. Karen’s favorite wine’s are French, although she lives to find a food pairing for ANY wine and she connects with urban revivalists.
Kellie keeps Juli sane in the back office by keeping things flowing on the retail side of the wine shop and the art gallery. She “moonlights” in our off season as a teacher for special needs children in the Fennville school system. Outside of work, you’ll find her wining, dining and dancing in GR, snuggling with her kittens, playing on the beach, and sometimes camping. Kellie’s favorite wines are New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs with lots of jalapeño pepper on the nose. She also likes wines that are sweet and bubbly! Kellie likes the contemporary art and is particularly fond of a piece that looks a bit like her!
Matt is our resident BFA Artist who loves to paint the shoreline of Michigan. Matt’s talents don’t stop there. He is also a fabulous framer and has been assisting our artists and customers with mats and frames. (He has sample set up in the lower gallery.) When not at work behind the bar, or building a new display at the gallery, you might find Matt on the golf course, tending his garden or creating a delightful meal with his bride. Matt’s favorite wine is a big spicy Zin and is inspired by abstract expressionists.
Amanda took on the role of getting us efficient on the office computer. She logged many hours creating inventory reports and systems to keep our inventory straight and accurate! You might not guess that a computer gal would also be a nature nut, but she is. She nurses abandoned birds back to health and is raising some special marsupials called Sugar Gliders. Amanda also has a keen interest in sound mental health and is working toward becoming a wellness coach. Amanda’s has a passion for dry rose and she is cheered by artists who use vibrant colors and amazed by the talent of our sculptors. She now works and lives in Chicago, but will be putting in a few weekend hours here from time to time.
Nichole came to us while pursuing her fine arts degree as an oil painter, and has been keeping customers happy at the bar and in the gallery. She is in her final year at school, and we cannot wait to see what she creates this semester. Nichole loved learning about the sales side of the art world. She loved assisting world renowned glass artist Craig Mitchell Smith with installations here in the gallery. She learned from each of our artists and enjoyed seeing how different artists market themselves. Nichole is fond of many wines and is excited about our new honey wine (mead) . She of course is inspired by all of our oil painters! She is now back in college, but will be here working during her school holiday breaks.
Sue is our happy, art focused local retiree who found US while looking for something to keep her busy. Lucky us! She loves art and her husband sells wine, so she has wine knowledge by osmosis. More about Sue will be forthcoming with her painted image…
