Larry Welo grew up as the son of Norwegian immigrants in Hibbing, Minnesota on the iron range. He studied art and biology at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and began a proper art career after graduating in 1974. His life’s journey led him to the bustling city of Minneapolis. There he met his future bride, Patricia and settled down in an exciting new city to raise their family.
Larry focused his art on etching printmaking and drawing his vision from all of scenery in his Midwestern surroundings. To Welo, “seeing meant that from daily observation and translation through drawing, I developed the skill of looking at the world in terms of two-dimensional design.” He is always attempting to convey ideas of importance. Larry seeks to communicate what he has seen and learned by way of truly observing his world. In our gallery you will find some of his intaglio prints and color intaglio prints. You will also see his most recent work experimenting with monoprints.
